The Road to Cania

Finding the location of the portal to Cania and discovering how to activate it is one of the main plotlines of the first act of Blizzard in Baator. Here is what needs to happen before we can cross over to the summit of Mount Nemesis:

  • You have rescued Prod and gone with him to the upper floor of the Styx Oarsman, where Wotyrxil told you about the wererat thieves from the Rat and Splat Inn.
  • Wotyrxil gave you the password to enter the inn: „Fur always on top…”
  • You spoke with Fragile-Tail (in the Rat and Splat) or read his journal – you will learn from the wererat that the portal is located in the half-sunken clock tower.
  • You resolved the conflict between the Fated and the Doomguard (or stole Ulfbrand’s earring).
  • You possess Ulfbrand’s bone earring (the portal key).

Next, you must meet with Tergush’tekhn again at the Smoldering Corpse Bar. The fiend will inform you that his agent – a white abishai named Gemariel – will be waiting for you in Cania. Tergush will also give you special magical protective clothing that will allow you to survive the freezing cold of Cania.

Now, you need to head to the flooded area and find Skppr the ferryman, who will take you directly beneath the clock tower. The portal to Cania will open during the anti-peak hour (midnight) – so you can ask Skppr to keep watch over you until then (it is possible that upon waking up, the in-game clock will still show one hour remaining until the portal opens, so wait there patiently).

The portal will accommodate a maximum of four companions. It is highly recommended to save your game before entering, as at the time of Act I’s release, this is a point of no return.

The Peak of Mt. Nemezia

You have reached Cania, at the summit of Mt. Nemezia. Far in the distance, you can glimpse the city of Mephistar, the seat of the baatezu serving Baron Molikroth.

Traveling through the frozen snowdrifts, you will pass the corpses of several wererats. One of the bodies belongs to Ratilda, Fragile-Tail’s companion, who ended up through the portal to Cania along with the rest of his gang and met her demise here. Lying by her corpse is a marraenoloth flute, which belongs to Wotyrxil.

A massive block of ice encases the petrified body of a celestial. If you examine it closely (requires 17+ Wisdom), you will spot a ring on its hand. Leaving the celestial’s body undisturbed will award you points toward a Good alignment.

Alternatively, if you have a Mage in your party (either yourself or if you are traveling with Ignus) and possess fire spells, you can melt a piece of the ice and attempt to remove the ring from the celestial’s finger (requires 17+ Strength, Dexterity, or Intelligence). If you succeed, you will gain the Kintyrean Memory (a ring granting +3 AC, +2 to saving throws against breath weapons, and increased spellcasting speed).

Near a massive skull, Akershus – the bard from the Rivergate– is waiting in ambush. He will attack you alongside a group of kokrachons and deal a fatal blow to the imp, Prod. It will be up to you to avenge your recent companion and defeat Akershus in battle.

On the brink of death, the bard will try to convince you to spare his life. He will reveal that he works for the devil Anit’bil, and that his mission was to locate Tergush’tekhn – which is exactly why he was waiting at the Rivergate, near Prod. Ultimately, you can tell him to get lost or ask him for one last song before delivering the final blow.

This brings Act I to a close.
