Ysgard – Earthberg of The Fated

You will reach Ysgard using the Fated Coin obtained from Haer’Dalis. The two-way portal between the Ditch and Ysgard is located near the Rivergate Tavern.

Just outside The Division of Debt Collection headquarters, you will meet Tasselknot Drohm, who will share Ulfbrand’s secret – the giant is immortal as long as he remains in Ysgard. Drohm possesses the Analects of Sigil, another book for the Modron librarian’s collection. He will give it to you if you chat with him for a bit about his life (alternatively, you can pickpocket the book or simply kill him). You can also discuss several topics with Drohm, including the dissolution of Bigby’s College of Academic Arts and the philosophy of the Fated (criticizing their philosophy will reduce the faction’s influence).

In the northwestern section of the earthberg, you will find the entrance to the Death Hole. From its depths – amidst bones, entrails, and human remains – you can dig up an unregistered sensory stone that you can use, as well as a ruined holy symbol of Moander (this item will certainly interest the pale woman in the residential area). Naturally, you will also wake up in the Death Hole if the Nameless One dies while in Ysgard.

Einar the Skald is examining a stone archway. He will reveal that a jade skull was once stolen from it, which originally served to activate the portal to Alfheim. If you have the skull with you (from Poirat’s quest), you will be able to open the gateway to this Ysgardian realm – or at least to a small cache hidden within it.

Alfheim

The portal will teleport you to a wooden platform surrounded by massive trees.

You will not encounter any NPCs in Alfheim.

Here, you will find several containers filled with magical items, including four different +3 axes, each featuring a distinct elemental damage effect: electricity, fire, cold, or acid. When you return to Ysgard, the skald will notice and demand the return of the portal key. Refusing will trigger a fight with a group of berserkers. If you peacefully hand over the skull, you will receive experience points, but the portal will close permanently behind Einar.

Alternatively, you can hand the jade skull over to Ulfbrand inside the Division of Debt Collection. Doing so locks you out of the portal to Alfheim, but the giant will reward you with the Axe of Ragnarök.

The Division of Debt Collection

Ulfbrand
Sauna Master

Inside the Division of Debt Collection, you will find Ulfbrand, the Sauna Master, and another book for the librarian’s collection: The Seven Wonders of the Multiverse.

The Sauna Master will allow you to rest here or start a sauna session. You can invite certain companions to join you, including Morte, Dak’kon, and Annah. The first visit for each companion will grant them a permanent Constitution boost (+1). The Nameless One can survive all of the sauna heat levels if his Constitution is high enough (requires 18+ Constitution).

You can also invite Ignus to the session. Furthermore, you can suggest that he fly directly into the furnace to heat the sauna up even more. If you goad him into cranking up the temperature significantly, everyone in the sauna will be consumed by the intense heat. While this gives the mad mage a substantial stat bonus (+2 to Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, and Intelligence), you will be forced to resurrect your companions afterward. This is a bit tricky, as magic does not function in Ysgard, meaning you will have to carry your companions’ corpses back to the Ditch first.

The giant seated upon the throne is Ulfbrand Völgarsson Baunaætari. Nearby, you will spot his loyal wolf companion. The giant can reveal his pet’s name (Sharikira; requires 13+ Charisma), which allows you to play with it for a moment. You can pet the wolf or give it something to fetch (it will accept a fiend’s femur, a club made from a human femur, or a shamanic rod – if you don’t have any of these items, you can easily find something in the Death Hole).

You can also feed Sharikira: cheese, a bone amulet, a human or fiendish femur, or a shamanic rod (each item rewards you with experience points). If you give the wolf a piece of candy or kick it, Ulfbrand will fly into a rage and a fight will break out (this will also decrease the Fated faction’s influence).

Ulfbrand himself is immortal, at least while in Ysgard, so if you anger him or try to defeat him, it will either end in your death or force you to flee.

Ulfbrand Völgarsson holds the key that opens the portal to Cania, so it is in your best interest to resolve the conflict between the Fated and the Doomguard and ally yourself with one of the sides.

You can hand the jade skull over to the giant (if you have it). A Nameless One specialized as a Fighter can obtain valuable combat advice from him (which increases his Strength by 1). Ulfbrand will also tell you a bit about Rowan Darkwood, the current Factol of the Fated. Furthermore, if you previously listened to the lecture by the Death Advocate (in the Civic Festhall), you can point out to him that those who wait lose the memories of their mortal lives (which reduces the Fated’s influence by 2).
